Programs

Infants (6 weeks to 18 months)

Our infant program strives to create a loving and responsive program that values each child’s individuality. Our focus is on building relationships between the teachers, parents and children because we know that leaving your new baby in someone else’s care can be challenging and requires a great deal of trust.

We provide:

  • A clean and safe environment for your infant to explore
  • Highly trained teachers who will nurture and engage your infant in play to support emerging skills and interests
  • Schedules based solely on your child’s individual needs that will change as they grow
  • Daily communication detailing anything that has happened during the day, including feedings, diapering, naps and activities

Our center is certified breast feeding friendly. We support and encourage mothers who wish to continue breast feeding after returning to work. We will do our best to make the transition as easy as possible for both you and your child. We provide formula for infants who are not breast fed unless otherwise agreed upon by parent and teacher. We also provide baby food and infant cereal for all babies in our care.

The earliest years of life are a period of incredible growth and we look forward to working with you to build a healthy foundation for your child’s life.

Toddlers (18 months- 3 years)

The toddler years are a period of rapid growth in many areas including speech, motor skills and social emotional development. We at St. Johns Early Childhood Programs strive to provide a sensory rich, play based curriculum to encourage this growth. This year we move into a more intentional approach to learning, combining play and group activity to initiate learning through themes.

Your toddler will participate in a semi structured daily schedule that is flexible to their needs while incorporating:

  • Learning centers
  • The Arts
  • Circle time
  • Fine Motor development
  • Sensory experiences
  • Gross motor development and outdoor play

They will work on their social development as they begin to emerge from parallel to cooperative play, learning games and songs with their peers. When they are ready they will begin to learn daily skills such as potty training, dressing and undressing themselves and table manners. The children will explore the outdoor space much more often at this age including both the playground and our nature trail.

Your child will make a transformation in the toddler years that is remarkable. We very much look forward to assisting in and watching this transformation with your family.

Threes/Preschool

As your child begins to expand their vocabulary and create meaningful social relationships with peers, we promote continuing learning through play in a print rich environment. It is important throughout this year to let the children explore and investigate their own interests. We structure our plans to be open ended and develop with the child’s initiation of other activities and ideas.

Your preschooler will participate in a semi structured daily schedule that is flexible to their needs while incorporating:

  • Learning centers
  • The Arts
  • Circle time
  • Activities to promote recognition of letters and shapes
  • Activities to promote self awareness and compassion
  • Fine Motor development
  • Sensory experiences
  • Gross motor development and outdoor play

At this age, children are just beginning to enjoy cooperative play with peers. We provide an environment where they can feel safe to share their experiences and unique qualities. They are encouraged to share major events happening in their lives as well as stories about their weekends and time at home. We enjoy watching them become comfortable in their own personality and work with them to see how they can contribute to the group. They all participate in classroom jobs and begin to learn leadership skills.

Fours / Preschool

Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom provides enriching, student-centered activities which allow children to learn through play. The curriculum for our class is aligned to the NYS Universal Pre-Kindergarten program, which helps our students to prepare for kindergarten. Our daily schedule allows for a variety of learning opportunities which assist our students in the development of physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills.

Your preschooler will participate in a semi structured daily schedule that is flexible to their needs while incorporating:

  • Learning centers
  • Math and Science
  • The Arts
  • Circle time
  • Show and Share
  • Fine Motor development
  • Sensory experiences
  • Gross motor development and outdoor play

This program is set up to allow children to feel ready as they enter Kindergarten while still allowing them time to explore their own interests. They meet new friends from both inside the childcare center as well as those who only attend our program. This allows them to develop the skills to adapt to new people and relationships.
